OLD STUFF

Gesture: Untitled 3 is one of the last pieces in the very large body of work of "gesture" paintings (I wish I would have taken more slides, but this was before the digital camera). Again taken from nature from a compositional perspective, I began to look for new elements to inject into the works. In this, I exaggerated the explosive drips and slashes of gesso ripped across the horizon line, but this was not enough.

Not represented on this site is a series of works that followed that moved into a semi-collage/picture box motif. They were based on mathematical themes, from the defintion of slope to the algebraic expression of the circle, complete with glued on sticks and torn paper and printed math expressions, to, well, they were interesting. While the quantity of works in this series was very limited, I think a dozen or so paintings, I sold a couple of them to Stanford through my gallery. They were kind of cool, but the real value was in the change of pace.
