OLD STUFF

Sure, this stuff is ancient, but I'm thinking there's some redeeming value to preserving some record... Let's begin with really, really old stuff. This piece is from my first series of paintings right out of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Seriously pretentious, as was the name I was signing my paintings with, Johannes. Hell, I was 22 and the earth still was inhabited by elves, gnomes, Elvis, the tooth-fairy, and Horatio Alger.

Yeah, I was pretty drugged up on Giacometti and Modigliani...hey, what's with the Italian trend? The heavily stylized rockabilly characters are consistent throughout this early phase. There were a lot more paintings in this series, but I seem to have either not taken the time to shoot slides, or I didn't bother to take the time to shoot slides.

Notice the classic triangular composition and chilly cool tones saturating this piece. I liked cool colors a lot back then.
